About Speakband — AI IELTS Speaking coach
AI IELTS Speaking coach: speak an answer, get a band score and fixes in seconds
Speakband is a finished, live IELTS Speaking practice product: an Android app on Google Play, a web version and a Telegram bot, all on one backend. How it works: a learner records (or types) an answer to a real-format IELTS question (Parts 1, 2 and 3). Claude grades it on Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range & Accuracy; on paid passes the recording is also assessed for pronunciation (Gemini). The learner gets a band estimate, concrete fixes and an improved version of their own answer. Also inside: a structured learning path, a no-score Conversation mode with everyday questions, vocabulary training with tap-to-translate, practice on the learner's own PDF pages (paid), progress tracking, streaks and reminders. The Android UI ships in 7 languages. Traction (honest) Pre-revenue: about $3 lifetime revenue (RevenueCat, Oct 23, 2026). 282 registered accounts (Nov 1, 2026). Play Console, Oct 13: 78 active Android installs; last 28 days vs previous 28: +71% new devices, +129% monthly active devices. $0 spent on ads. All growth is organic. Why Speakband, not the alternatives Built only for IELTS Speaking. ELSA Speak, Speak and Praktika are general speaking or pronunciation apps. Speakband grades on the official IELTS criteria, uses real Part 1/2/3 formats and rewrites the learner's own answer at a target band. Scores the learner's own answer. The popular local IELTS apps we tested sell question banks and sample answers but don't grade what the learner said. Better than "just ask ChatGPT": a fixed scoring rubric, voice in one tap, and progress, streaks and reminders that bring learners back. Grounding checks drop scores off the scale and quotes the learner never said. Telegram bot on the same backend: Telegram is where learners in Central Asia already are. Cheap to run: $0.008 AI cost per graded answer on average; passes are priced for 40-50% net profit even at a $0.02 worst-case cost per check. Well-tested code: 1,500+ backend and 680+ Android tests, CI on GitHub Actions. Try before paying: one free check, and an invited friend earns one more. Monetisation (live) Google Play one-time passes via RevenueCat: 7 days $1.99 (30 checks), 30 days $4.99 (75 checks), 60 days $9.99 (150 checks), plus a 50-check pack. Referral programme: an invite earns a free check (up to 10 friends). Costs Hosting $8/month (Railway: API, PostgreSQL, Redis). AI $0.008 per graded answer on average (Claude Haiku). Tech Python / FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Alembic; Android in Kotlin + Jetpack Compose, Hilt, Room, RevenueCat; Anthropic Claude for grading, Gemini for transcription and pronunciation, OpenAI TTS for voice. Privacy Policy, Terms, Play Data Safety and content rating are filed. What you get Full source code with git history: backend, Android app, web version, Telegram bot.
