About Soundcry
Music Discovery Service
A.) What is Soundcry? Soundcry is a music discovery service with which users can generate dynamic playlists based on their Facebook likes, or based on their favorite artists, genres, or songs that they enter manually. Every time you refresh a playlist page, a new setlist for the playlist is generated. Also, for every well-known artist there is an artist profile that contains a dynamic playlist of songs by the artist, the discography of the artist with links to each album's album-playlist, and links to relevant artist's artist profiles. There is also a convenient search feature that helps users find what they want easily. Ranks (as of 2 January 2014): Alexa:139,665 Compete: 84,047 Quantcast: 40,263 B.) Why are you selling Soundcry? I'm selling Soundcry because I've changed my goals, and I want to focus on my studies (Mathematics, Philosophy, Music). Soundcry is a side project that I have been working on for a year and a half that I now no longer have time for. C.) How can Soundcry generate money? Soundcry has been suspended from Google Adsense for content scraping (heavy usage of content hosted on other websites, i.e. Youtube embedded videos). However, here are some ideas that will likely generate more revenue than Adsense ever could: --Implement a freemium service where users can pay monthly to access more features (think Spotify) Implementing a freemium service is straight-forward if a secure login and payment system is set in place. Unfortunately, the login system (currently private) uses a deprecated method to access the database (mysql), which could prove to be unsafe for customers down the line (although password encryption is top notch, using BCRYPT and Blowflish). Securing the login system would require converting from a [mysql]-function-based login system to a PDO-based one. Setting up a payment system could be as easy as checking invoices to your Paypal Business Account and granting access to those who have paid. Time: 10-30 hours (for one developer) --Start an Indiegogo/Kickstarter Starting an Indiegogo or Kickstarter would require some basic marketing skills. The money you get from this could be used to hire a freelance developer to accomplish what goals you may have for Soundcry. Time: 10+ hours (for anyone) --Use ads from other networks/independent advertisers I get an email every now and then from someone/some entity wanting to advertise. I politely decline them, but you could respond if you like their ads. --Allow artists to pay for featured listings I get personal emails from artists occasionally, asking me to promote their music. You can negotiate with the occasional musician about promoting their content, for the right price. D.)What happens after the transaction? The following will be handed over to you: Hosting account and everything included (FTP, SSH, cPanel, MySQL accounts, etc.), Google Analytics account, Google Webmaster Tools account. You may need new accounts for the APIs that Soundcry is using. These are free and only take a minute to set up (that I am more than willing to help with). Also, if you do not know of a developer that can implement the freemium service and payment system, I can do that as well, for a fee (depending on the price paid for Soundcry). If you do this, I can add in user profiles for the users for free. E.) What are the monthly fees? Hosting is $35/mo, the domain name is $10/year. However, if you start getting heavy traffic and high profit, Echonest (a company with an API that I use) may request that you start paying a monthly fee to continue using their API commercially. Please feel free to comment or message me with any questions you have. Thank you for your consideration. Soundcry is powered by Youtube, Echonest, Last.fm, and Musicbrainz.
