About Manual Viable Product / BetaPages
Monthly service idea validator.
manualviableproduct.com, betapages.com I’m selling this side project because I think it has a lot of potential, however I simply don’t have the time anymore to support it. I got a huge reception when I first published the idea and the mvp and got it to a point where I could launch something really cool, but I’m afraid if I launch it then I’ll be obligated to help lots of people, which I simply don’t have time to do. I hope by selling it that you’re either committed to the idea and want to launch it yourself, or the code that I’ve written (described in detail below) will help you launch your own projects! Feel free to email me with any questions! started as a weekend mvp that made it to the front page of hacker news: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mpshzs0i86bme9u/Screen%20Shot%202014-03-16%20at%2011.32.30%20AM.png?dl=0 got tons of up votes on product hunt as well: http://www.producthunt.com/posts/manualviableproduct provides a simple way to validate a startup idea by capturing a user’s intent to use your service. then you can manually perform the service (ship them your product once a month, etc.) without having to build an automated system. allows the user to iterate on their idea very quickly. first iteration (the weekend project): statically hosted site, used js api below. js library that could be attached to an email input on a static web page that captured users’s email, asked them any extra questions required to service the user, and then emailed you that data. learned that people weren’t technical enough to insert a javascript tag and add a click event listener to trigger the mvp js library. second iteration: full blown rails application user accounts api keys monthly stripe charge free 14 day trial automatically disables account after certain period of failed stripe charges (handles expired credit card, etc.) third iteration: betapages.com rails application creates and deploys static site for the user (no technical experience needed anymore) user simply describes their monthly service, any additional questions they’d like to ask their customer, and site is generated and deployed for them on betapages.com subdomain. monthly stripe charge per site now free 14 day trial automatically disables account after certain period of failed stripe charges (handles expired credit card, etc.) automatically texts & emails myself if there is an error in the application and when a user deploys a site. all of these versions are in version control (git) so you’ll be getting all of these iterations. learn and use whatever you want. you’ll be getting the domains, the blog, the twitter accounts, and the code. servers were decommissioned but they were simple ubuntu boxes with minimal set up. email account was decommissioned but was done through google apps and can be setup again easily. I did also form an LLC in Colorado for this project, which I’m not sure how that works if I should transfer it to you or dissolve it, but I won’t need that anymore.
