About deels - Crowdsourced Discount Shopping
deels is a crowdsourced discount shopping website! Social shopping - were both, sellers and buyers, profit from collaborative shopping. Sellers can post items to be sold with time and quantity limits for a discount price if a minimum number of orders for an items are matched by buyers stating their intention to buy the item for the offered price. After all, if X units of an item can be sold even before it had to be ordered, great discounts are possible. It gives small businesses the opportunity to sell higher quantities and thus profit from better prices from their wholesaler. Buyers get great deels with unmatched prices, with a little bit of a thrill factor (wether a deel may go through or not) and a added option of direct involvement, in creating those better prices. If a buyer wants to buy an item that has not yet reached the minimum number of units needed to be ordered to yield the best price, the buyer can use social media to promote the product and its great value and help find enough buyers to get the projected discount price. Thus the sellers profits from the free promotion, the fast turn-around and last but not least from the great discount they get from their wholesalers for the high quantities of sold products. Then there is the benefit of getting paid for the ordered items, often even before the wholesaler had time to send his bill. This leaves a better and easier calculable profit-margin, which in turn can be shared with their customers without ever losing a cent! This is a online marketplace where generosity, collaboration and crowdsourcing pays off for all people involved. Imagine: You want to buy a brand new 4k big screen TV, head over to deels and go through the usual shopping menus and searches (along the way you see many great deels you can mark for later inspection) and find an offer. If by monday next week 250 units have been ordered, it will be only 800 instead of 1400 as it would be normally. 78 have been ordered and there are still a few days left. So you share the deel over your social network. One click and all social media outlets you have integrated into your account send a shout-out to your peers. With a little bit of luck, you may buy a brand new 4k screen for a much better price... and the gamble is part of the fun, after all, if the deel does not go through, you have lost nothing, but if it does... great deel! Imagine: You have a small to mid sized electronic store. The big online shops and cheap discount stores give you a hard time. You don't have that kind of financial security to order a hundred iPhones, so how could you ever get the same price as amazon, costco, bestbuy etc.? Also, there is still this big box of 1T hard drives left that you can't send back to your wholesaler because you'd make a loss at the current list prices. Post it on deels! Now you can sell 100 iPhones with ease and you don't have to pay any advertisement, just let your customers take care of promoting your deels. And since you now can order a 100 iPhone, certain that they all have been bought, you can pass along a much better profit margin. Or you can easily sell your old stock. And since you can accept a deel at any time (for the set price of course), you don't have to sell the quantity you set as minimum and can instead go through with the deel the moment your margin is good enough. So go ahead, offer to sell 10000 4k TVs, for 799 a pop. But understand that lower number are much more attractive and transparent. Plenty of options, ideas and thoughts went into this project. What you would get is the whole source code (well documented by a professional and very clean coder) in php and sql, design, graphics, future ideas and improvements and all other related material in digital form. You will also be buying the full rights attached. This was done in 2009. So it is not the newest web standard and a whole lot of cleanups and some optical and interface design changes would probably not hurt - the social media interface could also use a facelift and some of the ideas that did not make the most current version could be built in (the one-click share feature was never implemented). The CSS is probably a little bit messy too. But the website was in a well working stage and running in a open beta version online with actual offers (on PHP 5, some simple cron jobs and mySQL, with little bits from an open source template system). This was a no budget production and 8 month of work for two people. There was no money to promote the site, internet shopping was not yet as established as it is today and most sellers did not get the concept of being able to sell x amount of items, being paid for them, even before they'd need to pay their own wholesaler; not even have to place the order before it is absolutely sure the deel goes through. For others, who used to sell over eBay and other "cutthroat" marketplaces, it was hard to imagine that the lower a price, the more profit could be made, by relying on their customers t...
