About Aloud
Your Mac reads text, PDFs and web articles out loud
Aloud is a native Mac app that reads selected text, PDFs, screenshots and web articles out loud, with a word-by-word highlight you can click to jump around. Select text in any app and press Control-Option-S (or right-click > Services > Read with Aloud). It reads PDFs while skipping running headers, footers and page numbers, reads scanned pages and screenshots with on-device text recognition, and reads the article on the front tab of Safari, Chrome, Edge or Brave. Voices run on the Mac: Apple's Enhanced and Premium voices, plus the Kokoro neural voice on Apple silicon. You can also bring your own ElevenLabs or Cartesia key. Export any reading to an .m4a file. No account, no telemetry, no subscription. macOS 14 Sonoma or later. $19 once per Mac, with a 3-day free trial (no card needed).
