About RealWorth · Money and Inflation, Visualized
Interactive tools showing what money was worth, and what it's made of.
RealWorth turns abstract money into something you can see. The core is a historical purchasing power calculator covering six countries from 1750 to 2026, built on official CPI data. Instead of returning a single adjusted number, it shows what an amount actually bought: hours of work, loaves of bread, months of rent. Around it sits a growing set of interactive visualizations: Anatomy of a $100 bill — a WebGL model of a banknote that can be pulled apart layer by layer, viewed under UV light, cut in cross-section, and folded. How Big Is a Billion Dollars — a drivable road paved with $100 bills, comparing amounts by area, weight, and counting time. Global Money Flow — a live map of worldwide remittances, updated monthly from World Bank data. The Story of Money — 5,000 years of money in nine scenes. Salary Border Map — wage differences across European borders. Everything is built solo, runs without accounts or paywalls, and every figure traces back to a named public source.
