About DiDo — macOS notes with ink, canvas & voice
Offline macOS notes app: rich text, ink over text, canvas and voice input
DiDo is a native macOS note-taking app for people who think in words and in pictures. It is a finished, working product: build it and ship it, or fold the pieces into something of your own. Everything runs locally. No account, no server, no subscription to keep alive. Notes are plain files in /Documents/DiDo/, so nothing is locked in. WHAT IT DOES • Block editor (BlockNote): headings, lists, tables, code, images, slash menu, custom font-size controls • Pen over text — freehand ink that lives above the document and scrolls with it • Guides — pull a line out of the left or top edge to split a note into independent text zones, like a video editor • Drawing mode — a full Excalidraw canvas attached to every note • Offline voice input — whisper.cpp with Metal acceleration, four model sizes, configurable global hotkey; audio never leaves the machine • Daily notes with a calendar in the sidebar • Light and dark themes, English and Russian UI, full-text search, per-note colours • App-wide undo/redo that spans text, ink, guides and note create/delete UNDER THE HOOD • Tauri 2 (Rust) + React 19 + TypeScript + Zustand • whisper-rs with Metal, cpal for microphone capture, streaming model download with a progress bar • 2,800 lines of TypeScript plus a compact Rust backend — small, readable, commented • Builds to .app and .dmg, minimum macOS 11; bring your own Developer ID for signing • Every dependency is MIT or MPL-2.0 WHAT THE BUYER GETS • The full repository — React frontend and Rust/Tauri backend • The DiDo name, icon and brand • Handover support: a walkthrough call plus questions answered by email HONEST STATUS This is a working, daily-usable app, not a business. There is no revenue, no user base and no App Store listing yet. What is for sale is the code, the design, and the hard parts that are already solved: on-device transcription wired into the editor, ink and undo merged into one history, and the freeform zone layout. Good fit if you want to launch a paid macOS notes app without spending months on the foundation, or if you want a shipping Tauri + whisper.cpp reference to build on.
Project details
Next step: <p>Ship it as a paid one-time-purchase Mac app: sign, notarise, put it on a landing page or the Mac App Store. The offline transcription is the hook — nothing in the mainstream notes market dictates without sending audio to a server, and privacy-sensitive users (lawyers, clinicians, journalists, agencies under NDA) pay for that. From there: PDF and Markdown export, note templates, a quick-capture window, folder-based sync, iPad companion. The Rust backend also ports to Windows and Linux with modest work, since Tauri and whisper.cpp both run there.</p>
