About FoundStep
The project management tool that refuses to let you abandon side projects.
FoundStep is built for solo developers, indie hackers, and side-project builders who start projects but rarely finish them. Notion, Linear, and Trello are made for teams. Their flexibility works for groups with managers and external deadlines, but it lets solo builders skip validation and quietly grow scope. FoundStep removes flexibility on those two specific points. Every workspace runs through a 13-status lifecycle across three phases: MVP, Post-MVP, and Terminal. Before you can build, a 7-step questionnaire forces a written verdict of Build, Wait, or Reject. Once features and todos are planned, they lock. Any addition after lock requires a written, timestamped reason. That reason is recorded permanently in your Shame History and shown publicly on the project's Ship Card. Cutting scope is free. Adding it requires you to explain yourself in writing. When every todo in your version is complete, the workspace moves to Ready to Ship on its own. Shipped projects appear in your Harbor, a public portfolio that builds itself from your shipping history with tech stack, milestones, and version timeline. The Wall is the public feed of shipped projects across all FoundStep builders. One person per workspace. No team features. Key Features 7-Step Idea Validation. A questionnaire that ends in a written Build, Wait, or Reject verdict before the build phase unlocks. Scope Locking and Shame History. Features and todos lock independently. Every post-lock change is timestamped and shown on the project's Ship Card. AI MVP Planner. Generates a 4-week MVP plan with features, subtasks, effort estimates, dependencies, and architecture hints. Five generations per workspace. AI Next Action. Surfaces the single next task to do, categorised as Critical, Warning, Celebrate, or Action. Updates every 2 seconds. 13-Status Lifecycle. Steps move forward across MVP, Post-MVP, and Terminal phases. You cannot skip steps. Semantic Versioning. v1.0, v1.1, v2.0 with milestone tracking and a version timeline. Harbor. A personal portfolio that builds itself from your shipped projects, with tech stack and stats. Ship Cards. Downloadable cards for each shipped project showing name, ship date, days to build, version, and public unlock count. The Wall. A public feed of shipped projects across all FoundStep builders. Follow other developers and star projects. Soft and Hard Deadlines. Integrated with AI Next Action so deadlines surface as Critical or Warning. Read-Only Data Preservation. Cancelled accounts and over-cap workspaces remain viewable. Nothing is deleted.
