About Stereo Tunes
Real-time YouTube listening rooms with viral reactions, moments, chat & recap.
Stereo Tunes — real-time “listen together” rooms with reactions & recap Stereo Tunes is a production-ready “listen together” web app where people can join a room, queue YouTube tracks, and stay synced in real time. It’s built for small groups, communities, and remote hangouts — with a clean UX, a responsive UI, and a reliable real-time core (playback state, presence, chat, reactions). At its heart, Stereo Tunes solves the main pain of shared listening: everyone stays on the same moment of the same track. Users can chat, react, jump to highlighted moments, and open a room recap with the best tracks and best reactions — all without complicated onboarding. Core features 1) Real-time synced playback (the “host-synced” experience) Shared playback state: current track, play/pause, seek position, server timestamp. Automatic re-sync via heartbeat with a tolerance threshold (prevents constant “micro-jumps”). Smooth handling of autoplay restrictions (first user interaction unlocks playback). Track end handling: when a track finishes, the system can move to the next track and keep everyone aligned. Why it’s valuable: the experience feels like one shared player, not “everyone pressing play separately”. 2) Queue system (multi-user) Search YouTube and add tracks to the room queue. Play next / play a specific queue item. Remove items from the queue. Designed for group usage: members can contribute tracks, not just watch. Why it’s valuable: it feels like a real room where everyone participates, not a one-person playlist. 3) Live chat — feels “alive” with system events Chat supports both normal member messages and system messages: Member messages: standard real-time chat. System events: join/leave notifications, “playing track” events, reaction events, etc. Different message types can render with different styles (centered “islands” for system events). Why it’s valuable: rooms feel active and social even when people aren’t typing a lot. 4) Emoji reactions + timeline moments This is the “killer” engagement feature: Users can react with emojis while listening. Reactions appear as animated bursts and are also saved as moments on a timeline. Timeline markers show the most relevant reaction buckets. Users can click a marker (or click anywhere on the custom timeline) to seek to that moment. Why it’s valuable: it creates “shared highlights” and makes sessions replayable and memorable. 5) Room Recap (Best Tracks + Best Moments) After a session, users can open a Recap modal that summarizes the room: Overall totals: tracks played, messages sent, reactions, unique participants. Best tracks: top tracks ranked by reactions. Best moments per track: the strongest reaction buckets with top emojis. Top contributors: track adders, chatters, reactors. Why it’s valuable: recap turns a session into an “artifact” — something users want to revisit, share, and repeat. 6) Presence (online members) Tracks who is currently online in the room. Heartbeat-based presence logic + leave handling. Useful both for UX (“who’s here?”) and for future expansion (roles, moderation, analytics). UX highlights / quality-of-life Mobile-friendly layout and interactions. Clean UI with modern styling (Tailwind + motion animations). Designed to avoid wasted YouTube quota (limit results, cautious fetching). Handles tricky real-world cases (autoplay blocks, tab switching, partial YouTube availability). Use cases Stereo Tunes fits multiple real-world scenarios: Friends listening together remotely: Share music while chatting — like a lightweight “Discord music night”, but focused. Community rooms / fan clubs: Public or private listening sessions with reactions and highlights. Streamers / creators: Run themed listening rooms where the audience reacts and creates moments. Recap becomes shareable content. Remote teams / coworking: Background music room with presence + lightweight chat. Events / small online parties: The queue makes it easy for everyone to contribute tracks. Why this is a strong acquisition Production-ready: Dockerized, deployable in minutes. Real-time architecture already solved: chat, playback sync, presence, subscriptions, cache patterns. Sticky engagement mechanics: reactions → moments → recap. Expandable: easy path to monetization and growth without rewriting core systems. Tech & architecture Turbo-repo: apps/web (Next.js), apps/server (NestJS GraphQL). GraphQL: queries/mutations + subscriptions. PostgreSQL + Prisma: durable data (chat, reactions, recap stats). Redis: fast state & ephemeral real-time coordination. Caddy: SSL + reverse proxy. Docker Compose: one-command deployment. Monetization potential (planned) Premium rooms (higher member limits, advanced recap, saved history). One-time purchases (recap export, customization packs). Donations (already supported via external link).
