Online map of your travels updated over SMS
In 2014 I did the Mongol Rally, driving a car from London to Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, over the course of 2 months. This is a 10,000-mile journey through countries that do not have reliable internet connections. I built a small system to allow me to send back location updates over SMS. After returning home, I built SMS Travel Map as a way to expose this technology to other people. Users can send updates either manually by SMS (they type in the GPS coordinates and a short message) or using the SMS Travel Map Android app. Marketing is not my strong point. Under my stewardship, SMS Travel Map has not taken off. There have been a sum total of 2 paying customers, one of them current (10th Aug 2016). Since its inception (according to Google Analytics) there have been 13,000 sessions. The last months have had: April: 363 sessions May: 169 sessions June: 380 sessions July: 386 sessions There are 87 signed-up users.
