Jember is a free, gamified language-learning platform built for people learning Amharic or English. It brings structured lessons, practical vocabulary, audio pronunciation, and interactive games together in one bilingual experience. It promotes and advocates for cultures in Ethiopia and around the world. Jember is primarily designed for Ethiopian diaspora families, children connecting with their heritage, travelers, and anyone who wants to learn the Amharic language, Ge’ez script, or everyday English. It also serves Ethiopians aiming to learn English and join the global workforce. Learners can explore structured language courses in both directions. The Amharic course for English speakers includes 13 interactive lessons covering the 33 Ge’ez Fidel families, pronunciation, word formation, greetings, numbers, grammar, family, food, travel, health, Ethiopian proverbs, and more than 1,000+ useful words. Jember also offers an English course for Amharic speakers, with lessons on phonics, vocabulary, grammar, real-world conversations, common mistakes, idioms, and phrasal verbs. For learners who prefer learning through play, the Jember Games collection includes word puzzles, memory challenges, translation exercises, quizzes, typing practice, and Ethiopian culture trivia. Players can assemble words in Amharic Word Build, match Ge’ez characters in Fidel Memory, or translate words and phrases between Amharic and English in Translation Sprint. Other activities include Word Search, Word Guess, Amharic Crossword, synonym and antonym quizzes, and Amharic speed typing. Jember combines education with game mechanics such as XP, daily streaks, levels, achievements, and global leaderboards. Learners can also use resources such as the Amharic keyboard guide to practice writing Fidel characters.
