Front end: The web site (it's front end) is currently hosted on GitHub pages. I have chosen them because they are free. Depending on your monetization plans, most likely you will have to host the website somewhere else. Check the GitHub Pages TOS. But since this part is 'static' you can basically move it wherever you want. You can check the GitHub repository here: https://github.com/covid19travel/covid19travel.github.io With the purchase of the domain you can get the GitHub account and accompanying email address (at gmail.com). - if you want. Comments left on the website are also accessed via that gmail account. You can notice that the html, css and js code is obfuscated and minified. Readable source code will be open-sourced. You will be able to take it from there. Back end 1: This part is responsible for email subscriptions and alerts. It is receiving GET and POST requests and it is sending outward emails. It is written in python 2.7 and it is running on Google App Engine. For free again, if you fall under given quotas, or really cheap anyway. The source code will be open-sourced and you will be able to take it from there. Back end 2: This part is fetching and processing data, uploading it to GitHub (updating front end) and triggering alerts on Back end 1. It is written in python 2.7 and uses the following libraries: pandas, urlib2, json, datetime. According to my knowledge, pandas is not available on Google App Engine and that is why this part is separate. Currently it runs on one of my servers in shared hosting environment. These scripts will run on your server. As mentioned earlier, shared hosting environment is sufficient, or you can even run it from your own PC as long as it is connected to internet. The source code will be open-sourced and you will be able to take it from there. Including the batch script that runs everything in order. Currently it is triggered by cron. You can move Front end to Google App Engine as well, where it could run together with Back end 1. Or you can move all 3 parts to a single server, possibly on a shared hosting. If there is something that is not clear, or some information is missing, please ask and I will update the description. Questions and Answers: Q: Are there any other specific requirements to run the back end on a PC? A: Only Back end 2 can run on a PC.
