Detailed Description

Bee diary (Dnevnik pčelarstva in Serbian) represent a modern way of beekeeping and apiary management. It's a way of modernizing beekeeping.

This is a massive project. It has been worked on since April 14th 2021, and it is still in development and it is constantly being improved.

There are more than 22000 hand written lines of code in entire project. The whole development process has been going on for over a year and it has been document on GitHub, with over 1500 commits.

It is important to mention that this was the winning project of the fifth m:tel regional app contest in March of 2022. It was chosen amongst 150+ submitted apps from all around Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Bee diary is a available as a mobile app on Android and as a web app (with a few less features) on every other operating system.

The app is currently available on three languages: English, German and Serbian (Cyrillic and Latin).

There is also an option for light or dark mode.

Bee diary consists of 8 parts. Every part of the app can be accessed from the home screen. The app includes the following screens:

  1. My apiaries - a place where you can add your apiaries. You can add an unlimited number of apiaries. Every apiary has it's weather forecast (available for any latitude and longitude on Earth) and tasks screen (tasks can be marked as done and scheduled to send a notification on a certain date and time). You can also add an unlimited number of hives to an apiary. Every hive has four screens. A notes screen, where you can type in notes for a specific date. A audio notes screen, where you can easily record audio notes. A harvesting screen, where data about honey harvesting is kept. And the last screen, the weight scale screen which allows you to connect the virtual hive with a real specialized weight scale on a hive on your apiary and see it's readings.
  2. My profile - Allows you to create a free profile. A profile can be created using email, Google, Facebook and Twitter. Creating a profile isn't mandatory, most of the app can be used without it, but it is required for the Forum and Cloud backup.
  3. Forum - The place where beekeepers can interact with each other and share information. Bee diary allows forum users to publish four different types of posts: text, image, poll and link. Other users can interact with the post by liking, commenting and sharing. On the forum beekeepers can also talk directly with each other using private direct messages, with built-in message notification support. Users can send regular text messages but also images, links and GIFs.
  4. Hives with weight scales - Quick access to all the virtual hives inside Bee diary which are connected to weight scales in real life.
  5. Scanning - Uses the power of machine learning and artificial intelligence to tell if a bee has varroa or not.
  6. Stores nearby - A screen which gives the user the closest beekeeping stores to his current location. Provides information like phone number, email, location (address), customer reviews and working hours.
  7. Cloud backup - Store you apiary and hive data on a safe place without the risk of losing them.
  8. Video surveillance - Allows the connection to a security camera on the apiary in real life using a specialized Video surveillance app provided by Bee diary.

This app is perfect for beekeepers and it is exactly what they need to stay productive on their apiaries. It is a production ready app, which has been built to suit real beekeeper needs and it has been tested and approved by almost 80 professional beekeepers in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia.
