About imread
A free article reader that turns public web pages into clean text and Markdown.
imread is a free browser-based reader for people who want the useful part of a public web article without its menus and page clutter. It is a working project being shared for feedback on reading and research workflows. A typical use is moving an article into research notes: paste its public URL, inspect the extracted title and text, then copy plain text or Markdown with the original source address. Researchers, students and writers can keep the source beside their own notes instead of copying an entire page layout. The reader also offers listening and translation. Basic article extraction needs no account; optional Google sign-in supports a saved library. Developers can use a documented REST API and an MCP endpoint to retrieve article text for their own workflows. The API supports bounded parts of a long article through offset and maximum-character parameters. Try the reader at https://imread.org/ and find the developer guide at https://imread.org/docs/api. The project is useful for ordinary public articles, but login-protected, image-heavy and JavaScript-dependent pages may not extract. Listening and translation send text to external providers. This is not a way to bypass a publisher's access restrictions. Feedback on extraction clarity, Markdown formatting and the API documentation would be especially useful. No revenue, user-count or traffic claim is made in this showcase.
